MANILA, Philippines — Cassie Carballo admitted she had a hard time getting her rhythm in their first two games in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.
With the trust of her coaches and teammates, Carballo paced the Tigresses to a come-from-behind 25-12, 22-25, 13-25, 25-23, 15-13 win over the De La Salle Lady Spikers for their second straight win on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

“The support system, especially the coaches, is really important. I wouldn’t be here if they didn’t trust me. That’s what I hold on to—the purpose we have. We always remind each other of it because it feels so much better to play when we know what we’re playing form,” said Carballo, who had 22 excellent sets on top of two points.
The UAAP reigning Best Setter is proud of new outside spikers Marga Altea and Beth Hilongo, who are stepping up in the absence of Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula as well as Kyla Cordora, who sprained her ankle last game.

“Honestly, it’s a bit challenging because they all have different plays, versatility, and abilities. We just follow the system and the coaches’ instructions,” said Carballo.

“Through bonding outside the court because they know I trust them and our system, especially the coaches. I struggled to find my rhythm in the past two games, so I’m really thankful for the trust they’ve given me. I just remind myself that I wouldn’t be here if they didn’t trust me. That’s my motivation.”
After UST split its first two games with a four-set opening game loss to Far Eastern University and being pushed to the limits by the University of the East, Carballo was thrilled to see the Tigresses play their hearts out to extend their winning streak against the Lady Spikers to four.
“It feels good to win against my [high school] teammates. We’re always thrilled to face them,” Carballo said.
