Choco Mucho riding 6-game streak into qualifying round

PASSI CITY, ILOILO—Choco Mucho wrapped up its PVL All-Filipino Conference preliminary round riding a sixth straight win after dominating Chery Tiggo, 25-18, 25-23, 26-24, on Saturday at City of Passi Arena here.

The victory sealed the Flying Titans’ position as the No. 5 team in the knockout qualifying round where they meet the Crossovers again who landed as eighth seeds.

“Sabi ko sa players ko kahit anong mangyari dito kailangan natin makuha tong game na to kasi malaking tulong to satin para sa next round,” coach Dante Alinsunurin said. “And nag-response naman sila nung first set.”

“Nung two to three talaga medyo nag-relax kami pero bandang huli naman nakuha pa rin namin yung game kaya sobrang thankful pa rin ako sa naging performance nila kasi yung gusto namin mangyari like yung service-receive and opensa namin nag-tugma tugma talaga,” he added.

Sisi Rondina delivered 20 points on 18 attacks and a pair of blocks as Isa Molde pitched in 15 points on 13 attacks, a block and an ace, apart from 15 excellent digs, as Choco Mucho advanced to the next round carrying an 8-3 record.

“Team effort pa rin naman and sobrang saya kasi nakikita namin may times na nag-rerelax pero napick up naman namin yung pagbalik agad,” Rondina said.

“Yun yung talagang pinaka-kailangan pa talaga namin trabahuhin, yung hindi mag-relax,” she added.

The Crossovers looked determined to steal a set, leading in the early parts of the second frame before a Cherry Nunag block on Shaya Adorador allowed Choco Mucho to tie the game at 22-all.

Mars Alba, who had 12 excellent sets, gave the Titans the lead with an ace followed by a crucial down the line hit by Rondina and a block on Adorador.

The back-and-forth continued in the third set with the Crossovers forcing a deadlock at 24 until the Flying Titans–led by Rondina–regrouped to clinch the game.

Ara Galang paced Chery Tiggo with a quiet nine points as well as Cess Robles who had eight. The Crossovers ended the first round with a 5-6 record after a third consecutive defeat
